Observing the situation in our institution, we often find anyone complaining about the uncomfortable situation especially because of his colleagues. He feels that it is very hard to work with some persons. He cannot enjoy it at all. Such situation can bring serious ‘disease’. Being lazy to work and not enthusiastic, the team cannot reach the goal, unproductive.
Eileen Rachman (2011) says that collective intelligence is the key factor of team and organization success. Even it can multiply the achievement. Then, what is collective intelligence? Collective intelligence is the ability of someone to understand, care about others and the willingness to work together in harmony situation. The power of team doesn’t deal with cohesion, interpersonal closeness, motivation and individual satisfaction but it is more influenced by care factor. Everyone does not only care about his own success on duty but also others’. The problem is that how to be able to do that?
In a team or an organization, usually it is difficult for a smart person to accept others’ opinion. He is very sure about his opinion. It is caused by the domination of ego. It will make it difficult to have collective intelligence. This situation endangers the unity of the team. Synergy will be splashed if only he respects others’ strengths and weaknesses. When the members of the team can understand and care each other sincerely, everything will be all right. The key is awareness that no team member can be successful without ensuring the success of someone else. The member of the team should enable the others do their role well. This idea must be built by focusing on the team goal and success.
Realizing how important the collective intelligence for the team success, it is necessary to build collective intelligence. There are some ways that can be done. Firstly, building the individual sensitiveness by caring about others as much as possible. Secondly, trying not to dominate in speaking although actually he knows much about the topic of speaking. He listens to others with ‘heart’. Formal and informal dialogue is also important to keep the ’genuine’ communication. They can discuss about anything but the spirit to keep togetherness needs to root deeply in the bottom of heart.
Another way to build the collective intelligence is team-work and outbound. In the activities or programs, touching the heart and ego is very important. If the activities just build cohesion and interpersonal in the team, it cannot be expected that the activities bring the positive impact in the institution or organization.
Furthermore, something much more important is praying, being close to God. Just as Gede Prama (2009:113) says that when we step in the path of God means we step down in the path of ego. In praying, we knock at the door of God. The door does not open for anyone who still holds his ego. When he releases his ego, anytime the door opens. In line with the idea, Erbe Sentanu (2007) says that the process of praying involves three-in-one; asking, being sure and accepting. When we pray to God, we do these three activities at the same time. They cannot be separated. In the time of praying, we submit ourselves thoroughly to God. We release anything dealing with ego. Then, Abu Sangkan (2007) called praying as the core of worship.
After all, if we have collective intelligence; getting rid of our ego, being humble, understanding others sincerely, we will enjoy working with whomever wherever and whenever. We will do anything enthusiastically. We will get anything we do better. We will enjoy our life.
